A practice race took place at midday to allow crews to become familiar
with their boats and the rules on the water. Then there were three races
to count towards the trophy. These proved to be quite challenging with
the wind as it was and very strong tide. The result of Day One was: 1

– 'Periscope' (6 points). 3

– 'Pisces' (8 points).

– 'Miscreant' (12 points). It was evident that 'Miscreant' was under-
performing as a boat no matter what the crew did, so it was decided to
swap her for 'Biscuit' on Day Two.

That evening we had the customary outstanding Curry Supper in the
Clubhouse cooked by Lea, the RCYC chef who specialises in curries
and always rises to the challenge.
Day Two started with no wind at all as we sat down to breakfast feel-
ing rather despondent. However, our Principle Race Officer appeared
after breakfast with the news that the wind would get up at about 1030.
So to pass the time he organised a written racing quiz in the Captain's
Room. As predicted by mid morning the wind was good enough for
