Wickham Church Hall looking out over the ancient gravestones, where
we were thankful to remain dry! The weather improved as the after-
noon progressed, and so too did the fishing. Bruce returned two Brown
Trout on St Clair; David took two home from the same beat; Christo-
pher got two on Holywell and one on St Clair. The rest caught tiddlers
or engaged in the delights of extensive casting practice in the pretty
Meon valley!
So in two days the SPS toli caught 12 Brown Trout, 9 of which were
returned, 2 Chubb and one fine Rainbow.
A huge thanks to David and Joanna for hosting this SPS fishing party
so generously. Who is on for next year?
SIRMOOR YACHT SQUADRON (SYS)
Cowes Regatta. 30 June – 2 July 2013
It is becoming increasingly difficult
to stage our Regattas because of the
need to have 'qualified' skippers to hire boats, and then to crew each
with three people. And the minimum number of boats to have a race is
four, but ideally we need five or six.
Some of our regulars were unable to make it this year but we were par-
ticularly pleased to welcome three new sailors, marked with an aster-
isk, to make up a party of 13 with 12 sailors to man four boats: Bruce
Jackman (Commodore), Tony Collis (Vice Commodore - flew in from
Portugal), Geoff & Cornelia Ashley, Andrew Johnston, Nigel St
George* (flew in from France), Richard (ex Fleet Air Arm 'Jungly' who
flew Gurkhas in Borneo – skipper on SYS Odysseys - regular Regatta
skipper) & Julia Bridges (crew on SYS Odysseys – regular Regatta
crew), Meryon Bridges* (ex-Sapper, Himalayan mountaineer, and
brother of Richard), Willy Bicket (7GRRA – regular Regatta crew), Nick
Cooke (10GRRA – skipper/crew SYS Odysseys – regular Regatta
crew), Will Hacking (another ex Fleet Air Arm 'Jungly' – flew for
Brunei Shell – crew on SYS Odysseys – regular Regatta crew), and
