Sirmoor Club (Nepal) Chairman's News
By Captain Bharatsing Chhetri
I was taken aback a bit when the Editor, Capt Karnabahadur Thapa, said
he had already received a number of articles for this year's Nepal Sir-
mooree just before the AGM started on 15 Jun. I realized then that the big
day was only three months away.
Although a free person (that I call myself), I always seem busy with one
thing or the other! Again I think I have more time for other works as I
have stopped reading newspapers and watching television for over half
a year now. I feel I have had enough in the 25 years since coming to the
civy street. Strikes, Nepal
bandh
, disturbances in hospitals over the death
of a patient, road block and demand of a minimum of a million rupees as
compensation for any injuries sustained or death of a person, irrespec-
tive of who is to blame for the incident, are not the hot news any more.
Corruption at the highest level, investigation and acquittal of the 'crimi-
nals' cover most of the pages of the newspapers.
Recent scandal in the purchase of transmitters by Nepal Electricity Au-
thority worth over two billion rupees, arrest of two dozen customs offi-
cial in one day and the same number of government officials from the La-
bour, Home and Finance Ministries for similar offences, etc have been
dominating the front pages of most newspapers these days. The newly ap-
pointed Chief Commissioner of the most powerful institution in the coun-
try, Independent Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, is in
the news for some time now. The date for the next constituent assem-
bly elections is announced,
Hunchha ki hundaina
is anybody's guess.
Delhi Day continues to be celebrated by all branches on 14 September ex-
cept Pokhara who celebrated on the 21
September last year. Because
there are very few Sirmoories in Palpa and Myagdi it has been sug-
gested that they join the nearby branch Sirmoories from next year.
Kathmandu, Pokhara, Chitwan and Butwal branches continue cele-
brating Tigris and Tamandu Days. Damauli will start celebrating from
next year.
We are glad that dates for the Sirmoor Durbar 2015 have now been final-
ised. The dates had to be postponed from first week of March to the last
