2. General Outline
. All elements of the Brigade are represented on the
Committee, as are the GBA, GWT and the Museum. The ‘C200’
Committee will be seeking more direct involvement of all parts of the
Brigade, serving and retired.
3
. There will be both public and brigade-only celebrations, within UK
and elsewhere, which will celebrate and honour the part Gurkhas play,
and have played, in the British Army and in our history. ‘C200’ will
reinforce the huge contribution the Gurkha soldier has made and our
“debt of honour”. The celebrations will be a spring board for a major
fundraising campaign for GWT(UK).
4. Main Event
. The serving Brigade will mount guard at Buckingham
Barracks in the second week of July 2015. The date for the Main Event
is planned for 11 June 2015 but this have to be brought forward to 9
June 2015 to avoid a clash with Magna Carta Celebrations and to
ensure the availability of royalty. On this day we will:
a. Present The Queen’s Truncheon to HM The Queen after that
day’s Guard Mounting.
b. Troop the Truncheon down The Mall to the Gurkha Statue in
front of the MOD, where we will hold a Memorial Service and
unveil and dedicate up-dated plaques on the plinth.
c. Hold a spectacular evening display and retreat at the Royal
Hospital Chelsea for up to 1500 ticket paying supporters. At the
end of this Pageant, some 120 VVIPs will attend a formal dinner,
while the remainder will attend a Reception with light eats.
d. The Dress Rehearsal will be open to both serving and retired
members of our Brigade.
5. G200 Support from Regimental Associations
.
All Regimental
Associations (RAs) will be encouraged to contribute to the 200th
Anniversary Celebrations by supporting all the events about which
you shall hear nearer the time, but also to do something positive for
GWT and the Gurkha Museum. We would ask each RA to consider
taking on the following:
a. Enter a Regtl Assoc Team into Trailwalker 2015. To raise funds
but also to increase awareness and to demonstrate that we all
remain determined to help our old and bold.
