GR Head Clerks were able to meet up again after decades during a
homely reunion lunch at Kumar Sahib’s house in Kathmandu in
October last year. Glad to see each other they obviously had a lot to
catch up on and share some old happy memories of
paltan
. All three

A Changed Aspect
When recruiting in Nepal in the mid-eighties I tried to get away from
the usual better-off areas in the ‘home counties’ around Pokhara and I
went far afield to the mid-west and enlisted from among the remote
Magars communities. One village in Lukum was as basic and
undeveloped as they come. They had never had any help or
